Jackson's birthday & birthday party

Sorry it's taken so long to update with photos from Jackson's second birthday but he's been sick and clingy the past few days.

We spent Jackson's actual birthday doing all things he loves. We went out for breakfast and got him pancakes, then we went home and opened his presents, followed by a trip to the beach, went to Denny's for a late lunch and then went grocery shopping (okay, not something he overly loves). We had a good dinner followed by ice cream with two candles in it. All in all it was a good day.
Here he is opening a cool present from Aunt Sarah, Uncle Greg, Carly and Paige. It's a big recycling truck with little recycling bins and people. He was so excited about it he immediately ordered us to open it so he could play with it!

Now he's opening a present from Mommy and Daddy. He really got into the whole tearing the wrapping paper process and seemed to have a lot of fun opening them.

Think he likes his new trike? It's one that you can have as a rocker (by putting the handle under the wheels so they sit on it), a pushing trike, and an actual trike (the handle is removable).

What a cute photo! He loves his new trike. It doesn't work so well as a pushing trike because he's so darn independent that he gets really annoyed if we even touch the handle. Don't we know he's a big boy who can do it all by himself? But he can't figure out how to put his feet on the peddles and push, so he just scoots along. Ah well, he'll get it!

We decided that on his actual birthday we would give him ice cream instead of cake. He much prefers ice cream over cake anyway. Plus then maybe he'd be more inclined to eat the mega block cake at his party! I think he approved of this plan.

We had his party at Tumblebums play center. It was a small party with only 6 of his friends and I think everyone had a blast! The kids played for about an hour and then we had snacks and cake. Then all the kids played again and we got Jackson to open his presents. It was a perfect, relatively stress-free party! Here's a bunch of photos from the day!

How could a kid not have fun at a place like this?

Cohen is a few weeks younger than Jackson and is such a daredevil! He was giving me a heart attack the entire day, climbing on the top of all the toys with absolutely no fear! Impressive little guy!

Here Jackson and Sakima are playing fairly quietly with a toy, which is so out of character for them. The rest of the time they were chasing each other like mad man. Sakima is a perfect match for Jackson's energy!

Tumblebums had two big fun slides custom made for their play center. Jackson loves this slide because it's just as fun to go up the 'stairs' as it is to slide down it. Jackson, Sakima and Ethan were great waiting their turns and making sure no kid was at the bottom before sliding down!

Mmmmm, snack time! Jackson's friends that were invited to the party were Ethan (not in the photo, or if he is he's hiding behind the bag to beside Jackson), Sakima, Kai, Liam, Cohen and Lily. Sakima and Ethan are some of Jackson's new buddies from Sooke. Kai, Liam, Cohen and Lily are all Jackson's friends from birth (we all met in our prenatal class). Absent from the party was our friend Ethan from our prenatal class, they were unable to come.

Does he not look like he is just humouring us about the cake. Like he's saying "oh fine, take your stupid picture and then I'll have a bite. But I will not enjoy it!" Much like he did for his first birthday cake too (check the previous post for proof!).

These two photos crack me up! Here's Kai daintily eating her piece of pink cake. Savoring every bite and making sure not to make a huge mess.

And then here is Liam. Trying to cram as much cake in at once as possible! Devouring the cake in all it's blue icing glory!

After the presents were all opened and Jackson had seen all the generous gifts he had been given he chose the one he wanted to play with. In case you can't tell from the photo it is a drink cup. Yep, he wanted to play with the drink cup over the trucks, electronic toys, puzzles, sticker books, etc. A drink cup. Weird kid.

I think this photo is just adorable! This is Ethan and his dad borrowed our camera to take a bunch of photos of the kids for us. He got some pretty original photos!

Isn't Lily's outfit adorable?! She's about two weeks younger than Jackson and they are in love (right Melody?). Last time they had a play date Jackson just kept hugging her and hugging her. I thought it was too much for poor little Lily but apparently she quite liked it and told her mom she had a great time with Jackson. See, they are meant to be together!

Poor little guy was getting quite tuckered out by the end of the party. I think he had a fantastic time and enjoyed every second of it! A great second birthday for our big kid!

Thank you to everyone for coming to help us celebrate Jackson's second birthday. And thank you all for the generous gifts, Jackson is enjoying them all!
