Funny kid
1. While giving the kids a bath together over the holidays Jackson looked at Lexi, very puzzled. Then turns to me and says "Baby don't have any bits! Why?". He was very concerned about Lexi's lack of bits.
2. I asked Jackson the other day if he was a boy or a girl. He thought about it for a minute and then replied with "no, I'm a duck". LOL!
3. Jackson's favorite descriptive word for food right now is "Delicious". I'm not sure if there is a cuter word for a 2 year old to say.
4. When Jackson sees a picture of himself, or even his reflection, he responds with "That's you!". I'm not sure if he knows he is that child, or if he thinks it's another kid named 'you'. Either way, it is pretty funny (and cute).
5. A question he asks us repeatedly is "what doing?". As in "Mommy, what doing?" but he stresses the 'doing' part of it and raises his voice a couple octaves on it. Really cute (and really irritating after the twelfth time in 2 minutes). We've taken to replying either with "look at me, what does it look like I'm doing?!?" or with something like "Solving world peace, one person at a time". Soon he'll really understand sarcasm.
6. It's funny when a kid starts using phrases that you don't expect a child to say. Then you realize one day that it is because you say them all the time. Some examples of things that are just ridiculously cute coming out of a 2 year old's mouth that we hear on a daily basis are: "sounds good" (when we tell him what our plan for the day is), "how doing?" (as in "how you doin'?" from the tv show Friends), "how's going" (as in "how's it going?"), "good plan!" and "thank very much".
7. He has taken to responding to a question with "Not" (instead of no). I think this is from me saying "Do you want a drink or not?" So logically the answer would be "not" instead of "no".
8. We were teaching him what sounds all the different animals make and got stumped when we got to a picture of a zebra. Do they neigh like a horse? Probably. But we decided it would be much more fun to teach him that a zebra says "hey, I'm a zebra". So now the conversation goes like this:
Jackson: Moo
Me: What sound does a duck make?
Jackson: Quack
Me: What sound does a sheep make?
Jackson: Baa
Me: What sound does a zebra make?
Jackson: Hey zega!
9. We recently traded our car in for a minivan. But when I refer to the vehicle I almost always call it a car (force of habit, nothing about me denying being a minivan driver). Apparently Jackson thinks I am a moron for this. So if I say "oh, Jackson your coat is in the car" he will practically roll his eyes and say "not car, Mommy, VAN". Soooorrrry!!!
The many different Lexis
And just for a laugh, here's Jackson at 4 months! LOL! See why I think Lexi is so wee? But also notice how light Jackson was at 4 months? So maybe Lexi will still darken up.People keep telling me how much Lexi looks like Jackson. I don't see it AT ALL! I don't see many features that are the same. They have different eyes, different shaped heads, totally different body sizes, etc. They are both sure cute tho!

Our little bruiser
Brian always jokes that I am an accident constantly happening since I am a tad clumsy. I guess he’s right since at the moment I have bruises on both legs and a cut on my thumb that I actually did to myself with my index finger nail. How in the world I managed that, I’m not sure.
Well, as much as
1. At 10 months old he fell off our bed onto the hardwood floor. Our bed is one of those really high ones that you practically need a ladder to get into. I had turned my back for a second and heard the thud. It was the worst noise I have ever heard! We took him to the walk-in clinic and he was fine.
2. Just over one year old he was running along a cobblestone path and tripped. The sound his forehead made on the rocks still reverberates in my mind. We had to go to a birthday party that afternoon and everyone kept talking about ‘that poor boy with the head injury’. Yeah, it was a good one.
3. Then there was in August of that same year. He tripped at my parent’s condo and did a header into the corner of their couch. He got another good goose egg along with a scratch from that one. We went to
4. I don’t have photos of this one but when I was in the hospital having Benjamin my mom and I took
5. Another one that I don’t have a photo for was yet another head injury that he got on the ferry. This was in January of 2009 and, needless to say, we were on our way to visit family. He was playing in the kids play area and tripped over one of the play structures and fell head first into it. He got a giant goose egg from that one! I went to the chief stewards office to get an ice pack, or even just a bag for some ice. They took one look at it and made me go to the first aid office to fill out an accident report, lol! They were great; checked him over and then gave him a stuffed animal even!
6. This was something unavoidable, but one morning he woke up with hives. They were all over his back but not too bad. By lunch he was covered in them; head to toe. I brought him to yet another walk-in clinic (yes, I know where they all are now!) because I was worried about how fast they were spreading and how much of his body they covered. We still don’t know what caused them. Of course I have a photo of this one!
7. I think this brings us to the present head injury. A few days ago
Really we don’t beat him! He just takes after his mommy. An accident constantly happening. Poor kid, lol!

mmmmm Lovely hands
Lexi has discovered the yumminess that is her hands. She figured out that she has hands and that ultimately they are under her control. She can't figure out that control but she knows that they can come up to her mouth and they taste delicious. And they are fun to hold. Changing her shirts now are a real pain in the ass.
And yes. She knows she's adorable.
And just for good measure, here's a photo of both kids. The proud big brother!

Okay, mom,., you win...
BUT there is one road in to Sooke. One road. There are two ways that lead 2/3 of the way into Sooke, but after that point there is just the one way. Usually not a problem at all. It's a beautiful windy road that goes through forests and along the water. I like the drive. Usually...
Today that ONE road is causing some problems. A logging truck lost it's load on the road and we are STUCK here! TRAPPED!! My family jokes about how if I don't have a vehicle I start to hyperventilate because I feel trapped and can't go anywhere. But this is worse! I have a vehicle, my brand new van, sitting in the driveway but I can't leave Sooke!! Normally not that much of a problem, but I am supposed to work tonight. I have things to do, places to go! It is 2pm right now and they are estimating that the road won't be open again until 4:30pm! Quick someone get me a paper bag!
The road has only been closed two or three other times since we moved here. One of those times was because of a bad wind storm leaving branches and trees down over the road, but they had that cleaned up early in the morning. That time didn't inconvenience us; we just went out for breakfast with Brian and he left for work a little later that morning. The other times were due to rain flooding out part of the road, but we just took the back road and got back onto Sooke Road. Only inconvenienced us by adding a few minutes onto our trip.
I suppose this isn't all that inconvenient. I'll just have to leave for work a bit later. But the thought of being trapped in this lovely town is making me feel like a bit of a leper. Like they are trying to build a wall to keep us Sookites trapped in our town. Shhh, don't let them into the city...

Getting settled into our 'routine'
We are trying to readjust to our 'routine' here. As much of a routine as there can be with a two year old and a 3 month old! I am deep into nap bootcamp with Lexi and Mommy separation with Jackson. Lexi has to figure out how to have naps that last longer than 30 minutes (without being driven around in the car!). Jackson has to figure out that he will not die if he is not with me 24 hours a day. He has his first full morning of daycare tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.
And we are sick. Jackson and I have a cold; snotty noses and hacking coughs. Brian is being bothered by either allergies or a cold, it's hard to tell. Lexi is healthy so far; let's hope it stays that way!
We are also in the process of reorganizing our entire downstairs. We are having a wonderfully cozy recliner sectional being delivered tomorrow and cannot wait! We also built a new entertainment unit this week to replace our mishmash bookcase deal we had working. Then we are hoping to make our guest room into a play room and move the guest bed into my office/sewing/craft room and make that into a sort of all purpose room. Lots of work ahead of us for all of that!
And now for pictures!!
